Book Review of The Gladio Protocol by Philip M Cooper

Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐-(5/5)

The book “Gladio Protocol” by Philip M. Cooper is a gripping thriller that takes readers on a thrilling journey through the world of international espionage and political conspiracies, hence a dystopian future. A book set against a backdrop of advanced technology and political intrigue, the novel weaves a complex web of suspense, actions, and human emotion.

The book has rich yet demanding characters. The whole story is centered on the protagonist, Alex Kalfas who was the Greek Minister of finance and former CIA operative. It delves into the treacherous web of blackmail as he is coerced by Themis Xenakise, the Prime Minister of Greece, to assume the role of the Greek finance minister. The story is filled with complex and demanding characters that add depth and intrigue to the narrative.

While events transpired in the United States, another plot was brewing in Greece. The Greek military was secretly planning a coup on a major religious holiday, with help from covert agents in both London and Athens. Meanwhile, in northern Greece, the Prime Minister had hired a mercenary army led by John Dexter, the CEO of Black Hawk. This army had destroyed an American pipeline installation, and their activities had been discovered by a British spy ship. There were signs that something even more dangerous was in the works.

The European settings of the novel - from the political heart of Washington D.C. to the metropolitan bustle of London, the romance of Paris, and the ancient grandeur of Rome - bring the story to life. Each setting is vividly and uniquely described, adding to the novel's dark and futuristic atmosphere.

From gleaming cities lit by neon lights to barren wastelands littered with the ruins of a bygone age, each setting adds a unique flavor and contributes to the novel's overall atmosphere. The diversity of locations provides a rich tapestry for the characters to navigate, and each setting presents its own challenges and opportunities. I was swept away to a world that is at once familiar and alien, a world where anything is possible.

Philips M. Cooper's employs a sophisticated, precise and evocative language that brings the world of international espionage to life. His detailed and precise use of language evokes a vivid sense of the characters' world, from their military jargon to their advanced technology. The specific terms related to military operations, weapons, and surveillance create a realistic and authentic portrayal of a covert world. The author's attention to detail also creates a sense of suspense and tension, pulling the reader in and keeping them engaged throughout the story.

"Gladio Protocol" was an enthralling and intriguing read, filled with unexpected twists and turns that kept me hooked until the very end. The author's knowledge and research on current political and financial situations added a layer of realism that made the story feel current and relevant. I appreciated the author's ability to capture my attention from the very first page.

Though I found the story engaging, I initially found it difficult to keep track of all the Greek names and places, and I had to re-read some sections to fully grasp the narrative. However, as I became more familiar with the characters and settings, I was able to fully immerse myself in the story and enjoy its twists and turns. The novel may require some perseverance from readers who are not familiar with Greek names and culture, but I believe it is well worth the effort.

Of truth, the book is a thrilling and addictive read, with complex characters and a plot that keeps you guessing until the very end. Alex Kalfas is an intriguing antihero who readers will root for despite his flaws. The story's journey around Greece is a treat for lovers of Greek culture, and the subplots add an extra layer of complexity and intrigue. I highly recommend this book for those who enjoy action-packed political thrillers with a strong sense of place and character.
