How to bake meat pie with/without oven


Ingredients 

6 cups of flour

500 g of butter

1/4 cup sugar 

1 tbsp baking powder

4 eggs

1 tbsp salt

1/4 cup of milk


Filling

Minced meat

2 carrots, chopped (sizable)

1 large potato, boiled and chopped

1/2 onion, chopped

1 scotch bonnet, chopped

Seasoning

Vegetable oil

2 tbsp flour

Glaze: 1 egg

Directions

1. In a large bowl, add flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Mix the dry ingredients thoroughly 

2. Add butter to the mix. Using your hands, mix till you get a crumb like texture. 

3. In the middle of the flour mix, Create a hole and pour in the eggs. Fold in with your hands

4. Add the milk and fold 

5. To a floured surface, knead the dough gently for like 5 minutes.

6. Place the dough back in the bowl. Cover and refrigerate for an hour or two


 While this is refrigerating, prepare the filling:

1. Fry the chopped onion and scotch bonnet

2. Add the minced meat, stir and add seasoning.

3. Leave to simmer. Add the potatoes and carrots. At this point you'd notice some kind of stock, add flour and stir immediately to prevent lumps

4. Once it is thickened, stir properly and check for taste. Turn off the heat.

To the dough:

1. To a floured surface, cut the dough into about 8-12 chunks.

2. Knead the dough gently for a bit and roll flat with a pin. Once it is rolled flat, place a saucer on the dough and cut out a circle. 

3. To the circle shaped dough, add the filling in the middle. Fold over and indent with a fork. Make sure it is properly sealed before baking

4. Repeat till the dough is exhausted.

5. Using a brush, glaze the meat pie with an egg

6. Bake at 180 °C till golden brown

7. Enjoy 


Without an oven:

1. Add 2 cups of salt or sand to a dry pot. Place your kitchen rack in the pot to serve as a stand 

2. Preheat the pot for about 5 minutes

3. Place the meat pie dough in baking pan lined with parchment paper.

4. Bake until golden brown 

5. Enjoy!
