Book Review of Daglyr by R. M. Dilleen

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐-(4/5)

Daglyr by R. M. Dilleen is the first book of the new universe series. It chronicles the exploits of a disordered and twisted alien in a parallel universe while facing life’s challenges. We meet with Widhbo, a captain. His current goal is to assume control of the daglyr issue—ferocious animals discovered robbing major supply lines on the remote planet of Corrudi.

Unfortunately, Widhbo comes across deception and divulges a sinister plot that imperils the entire Borrugal Coalition. He is impeded by his superiors while seeking to defeat tough opposition, which forces him to give up on a winning plan. To escape failure and a dismal future, he creates audacious goals. To make one last push for freedom, Widhbo must put his life in danger and give up everything he once loved.

This sci-fi book of adventure was a worthwhile read. The illustration and map representation of Planet Corrudi was unmistakable. The chapter sectioning was succinct and not laced with ambiguous vocabulary. On the other hand, the lack of overbearing language draws the reader to want to learn more about the context of the book. I found captain Widhbo to be a sensational character, despite the other personalities in the book. He was meticulous in carrying out his duties and relentless in seeking justice. The author took character build to heart and delivered.

Amidst the positives of this book, I cannot say I was impressed. Personally, the storyline didn't leave me fixated or wanting more. It wasn't catchy despite its elaboration. It felt plain, devoid of mix or unexpected twists. I did not encounter any reading challenges, yet I didn't have a good time. Even though I find sci-fi tremendously appealing, this just was not it. For this reason, I would be rating this book 4 out of 5 stars.
